Your wedding day is all about celebrating you, so make sure your dress reflects who you are.
This was a tricky one for me. When I was picking out my dress, I really had to hone in and define my style. Prior to this exercise, I thought my style was minimal and chic, in a 90s Calvin Klein / Carolyn Besset Kennedy way. However, when trying on a multitude of dresses, I found I never felt totally comfortable in the most simple styles. As it turns out, I needed all the tulle to feel like a true princess on my wedding day.
Whatever your style is, I encourage you to embrace what you feel most comfortable in!

When choosing your gown, it’s essential to consider the venue. After all, you wouldn’t wear stilettos to a beach wedding, right? For a château wedding in the Loire Valley, opt for a gown that complements the grandeur of your surroundings. Think flowing trains, intricate lace, and maybe even a touch of sparkle to catch the sunlight as you exchange vows amidst the enchanting backdrop of centuries-old architecture.
Our wedding reception was held in a French château in the Loire valley after a church wedding. I opted to wear a veil and cover my shoulders with a lace cape for church. I removed these items on the way to the château, revealing my full wedding dress.
Don’t Forget Comfort
Sure, you want to look like a million bucks on your wedding day, but you also want to feel like yourself. Don’t sacrifice comfort for the sake of style. Trust me, there’s nothing worse than spending hours in a gown that feels like a straightjacket. Choose fabrics that allow you to move freely and breathe easy, so you can dance the night away without a care in the world.
My dress was pretty fitted, with layers of tulle. But thanks to it being made entirely of natural fabrics – it was lined in silk and made of silk tulle – I felt able to breathe nonetheless. My advice: stay clear of synthetic fabrics which lead to more sweating and opt for natural fabrics such as silk, cotton or wool.

In my case, after trying on dozens of wedding dresses in a multitude of showrooms, I felt really confused. But I tried to trust that I would eventually find the one, and happily I did.
