In the past few years, a number of excellent pizza restaurants have opened in Paris and a lot of them are on regular lunch and dinner rotation. However, as a Left Bank resident, Anima is my favorite, not only for its great location, but for its excellent pizzas and ambiance.
1. Unearthing Anima: A Hidden Culinary Gem

Like many Parisians, I have an insatiable appetite for good food. So, when I first walked past Anima with its beautiful design and inviting exterior shortly after it opened in 2018, I knew I had to uncover its secrets. Located on Rue du Cherche-Midi in the 6th arronidissement of Paris, Anima is close enough to places of interest – Le Bon Marché, le Jardin du Luxembourg, Invalides, Poilâne… – that you can easily walk there as part of a day of exploring the Left Bank, but far enough that it is tucked away from the tourist traps.
Upon stepping inside Anima, I was immediately enveloped in the warm embrace of wood-fired goodness. The aroma of bubbling cheese and charred crust danced tantalizingly in the air, instantly transporting me to the streets of Naples. It wasn’t just about pizza; it was an experience steeped in tradition and authenticity, beautifully punctuated by a luxurious marble adorned interior.
2. The Artistry Behind Anima’s Pizzas

Anima’s pizzas are more than just a meal; they’re a work of art. Each pie is meticulously crafted using hand-kneaded dough made from imported Italian flour, ensuring a light and airy crust that’s both crispy and chewy in all the right places.
Ah, the wood-fired oven – the heart and soul of Anima’s culinary mastery. Watching the flames dance around the pizzas as they cook to perfection is a spectacle in itself. The result? A smoky char that adds depth to every bite.
While Anima pays homage to the classics, it’s not afraid to push the boundaries with innovative toppings. From truffle-infused mushrooms to spicy nduja sausage, there’s something to satisfy every craving. Personally, I’m a sucker for their prosciutto and arugula pizza – a perfect balance of salty and fresh flavors.
3. Embarking on a Gastronomic Journey

As tempting as it is to dive straight into the pizzas, Anima’s menu offers a tantalizing array of antipasti, salads, and desserts to whet your appetite. I highly recommend starting with the burrata drizzled with balsamic glaze – it’s creamy, indulgent, and sets the stage for the main event.
No pizza experience is complete without the perfect wine pairing, and Anima delivers on that front too. Their curated selection of Italian wines elevates the dining experience, enhancing the flavors of each dish. Personally, I find that a glass of Chianti perfectly complements the richness of Anima’s pizzas.
4. Tips for the Ultimate Anima Experience

Reservations Recommended:
Anima’s popularity is no secret, so I highly recommend making a reservation, especially if you’re planning to visit during peak hours. Trust me; it’s worth the foresight to ensure you snag a table at this gem.
Save Room for Dessert:
As tempting as it is to fill up on pizza, do yourself a favor and save room for dessert. Anima’s tiramisu is a revelation – light, creamy, and just the right amount of indulgent. It’s the perfect way to round off your meal on a sweet note.

In conclusion, in a city overflowing with culinary delights, Anima stands out as a beacon of authenticity and excellence. From its humble beginnings to its rise as a beloved culinary institution, Anima continues to capture the hearts and taste buds of pizza enthusiasts like myself. So, whether you’re a local or just passing through, be sure to pay a visit to Anima and experience the magic for yourself. After all, life’s too short for mediocre pizza – embrace the extraordinary at Anima in Paris. Cheers to good food, good company, and the joy of discovering culinary treasures in the City of Light.
